Vor Hohenegg
Near Hohenegg
At the end of Riedholz, the first village on our tour, we begin to ascend. After 30 to 45 minutes we come to Hohenegg. From the car parkt to Hohenegg you have climbed up 200 m.

From Hohenegg we walk through wood and ascend 200 m again. A few meters below the summit of the mountain Iberger Kugel we descend and reach the border of the wood. At this point we will have a break.

During this break I will tell you about the dramatical genesis of the Eistobel.

After the break we descend into the valley of the creek Schüttentobel. After a while we come to the border of a wood. Here we begin to go down the Schüttentobel (Schuetten Gorge).

At this point I will tell you what has happend here some thousand years ago.

At the end of this gorge we see a saw mill and have reached the Eistobel.

Between the saw mill and a power station is the river Obere Argen an idyllic reservoir. On the left photo you can see a crevasse.

I will tell you about the cause of this crevasse.

Behind the power station the Obere Argen reaches its natural water bed and there is the first water fall of the Eistobel.

I will show you very strage excavations there.

Nagelfluhschwellen
Nagelfluh swells

You will see a kind of "natural concrete" that is called Nagelfluh.

The pebbles tell me where they come from and I will tell you about this mystery.

The Argen passes a narrow area called Zwinger (kennel). Behind the Zwinger is another waterfall.

I will show you the best views to take a picture.

Not very long there is the next waterfall. It is shown on the top photo .

At this place you ask me all kind of questions about geology and I will give you the answers and I also will give you very interesting Informationens about the climate.

Cattle on the pasture

We walk along the Argen and after a while step for step the gorge becomes wider and we have climb up the steep path to the car park.
